Celebrating National Cancer Survivors Day

Every year, on the first Sunday in June, we recognize National Cancer Survivors Day (NCSD). It’s a day to celebrate the strength and resilience of survivors and caregivers and to provide inspiration to those facing a new diagnosis. It is a reminder that life after cancer can be fulfilling, rewarding and inspiring.

A few years ago I came across a TED talk that I thought put into words what many survivors feel. For many, the experience of cancer changes them. Gives them a new perspective on life and what is important. Now, of course, not every survivor feels this way – and that’s ok. Everyone experiences cancer and survivorship differently. But I thought in honor of NCSD, I’d share this video with you to give you one person’s perspective.

This month, we asked a few of our bloggers to share their feelings on survivorship and cancer – watch for those pieces all month. You will see that no two are the same. Survivorship is unique – though there are many similarities from one person to the next. As a survivor – you do you. Do what works for you and what makes you happy. As a caregiver or friend – support the survivor in your life to make the most of this experience. Make lemonade from these lemons. Go forth and show the world that life after cancer is worth celebrating and cancer survivors rock!
